Montreal Sketches 07: near Atwater metro

Here is a very messy sketch (appropriate for the subject matter?  Or maybe just an excuse for my crappy drawing...) of a rather disturbing and sad scene in a small park that was full of drunk people on a Sunday afternoon.

oh, dear. Drunk in the afternoon? And I'm so impressed that to you this is a messy sketch. To me? This would be a masterpiece. Let's leave it at I have not learned to draw since you've been away.

Sorry, maybe I should try to keep my self-depreciating comments to myself, but sometimes it's just too tempting. I'm such an insecure loser, I know... Doh! failed again. ;)

Anyway, yeah, there were a bunch of people who seemed to be drunk and/or homeless hanging out in this small park square. I kind of wish I had taken a picture actually, because the lady really was lying there exactly as drawn with the beer can at her feet. It seemed to tell the whole story in that one image. Also, the Ladies in the background were real too. One of them was holding a bottle of alcohol away from the other, who was trying to grab it. I couldn't tell if the lady with the bottle was trying to help or if they were both fighting over it. Either way it was kind of heartbreaking... I also felt a bit guilty about just sitting there drawing them. God calls us to help the poor and the needy... I always wonder, what's the best way to help when we see a scene like this right in front of us? Maybe I should have at least gone up to the sleeping lady to see if she was okay or something (she did eventually get up). I don't know...
